Operatives of the Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a self-acclaimed prophet, Godwin Sunday Ajuluchukwucheya, popularly known as Prophet Sunday Koboko, for allegedly defrauding members of his church of N70,391,600 (Seventy Million, Three Hundred and Ninety-One Thousand, Six Hundred Naira) through a series of elaborate spiritual and investment schemes that preyed on the desperation and faith of his congregation.

The Commission's Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, that the arrest followed a petition from a member who alleged that Ajuluchukwucheya deceived him into believing that the prophet could bring his brother, who had been abroad since 1997, back home. The petitioner paid N6,231,400 for spiritual works to that effect. He further alleged that the suspect also claimed to possess the power to make his sister-in-law, who had been childless for over 15 years, conceive, and collected another N3,251,200 for spiritual works.

Investigations further revealed that the suspect announced to his congregation that he had won N33 billion in a lotto game and assured members that those who contributed financially would receive dividends from the alleged winnings. The petitioner contributed N3,349,000 to the scheme. In another elaborate scam, the suspect lured members into investing in a rice processing machine worth N1 billion, promising them partnership in the business. The petitioner contributed N500,000 towards this venture, bringing his total losses to N13,331,600 without any results.

During the course of the investigation, other members of the suspect's ministry flooded the EFCC directorate with claims of how they were defrauded by Ajuluchukwucheya. One of the members told investigators: "When I came there a whole lot of things were going on as investments in the church which I partook in virtually all of them…ranging from the issue of him winning N33 billion with Baba Ijebu. He said the money cannot be retrieved due to how huge the amount was. So, members of the church will have to help him by buying holy ghost thunder to blast the spiritual army being organized by Baba Ijebu. He sold each of the spiritual thunder for N38,000 and we had to buy 1000 pieces to fight Baba Ijebu's spiritual army."

Investigations showed that Ajuluchukwucheya's modus operandi involved luring members of his ministry into buying his "products" for prosperity, which included miracle stickers, spiritual dragons, and holy ghost thunder. Another victim said: "He asked me to do what they tagged holy ghost thunder, believing it was going to solve my problems, I bought it and after all the payments, nothing happened and my problems still persisted."

The total amount allegedly taken from members of Ajuluchukwucheya's church is N70,391,600. The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
