A somber yet deeply emotional scene unfolded in Arochukwu, Abia State, as the remains of Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo arrived in his hometown ahead of his wake-keep and burial. The 40-year-old actor passed away on May 11, 2026, at Evercare Hospital in Lagos after a courageous battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer, a loss that threw the Nigerian entertainment industry and fans worldwide into mourning. The video of his casket arriving in the community has since surfaced online, capturing the raw grief of family, friends, colleagues, and community members who gathered to bid him a final farewell.

The actor's remains were transported from Lagos to Arochukwu between June 15 and June 16, 2026, and were received by his grieving wife, Anwuli Amakom, alongside other family members. A video circulating on social media shows the white casket being received at the palace of the king of Arochukwu, where traditional rulers and chiefs offered prayers over the body. The king, accompanied by one of his chiefs, was seen speaking and praying for the late actor's soul while standing beside the casket, which was placed in a white vehicle. The poignant moment brought many to tears, with one observer noting, “The heavy truth has finally dawned on us. Tomorrow, Alexx Ekubo will be laid to rest and returned to his Creator.”

The arrival of the casket was marked by a procession of friends, family members, and well-wishers, many dressed in black T-shirts and carrying pictures of the late actor. A close friend of the deceased, IK Ogbonna, was seen in the company of other friends, helping to set up the venue for the funeral ceremony. The wake-keep took place on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the family residence located at 7 Ekubo-Okwaraeke Avenue, Aziukwukwa, Ujari Village, Arochukwu, with a large gathering of loved ones paying their respects and comforting one another in their shared loss.

The video of the casket being pulled out of a car at the family compound has left many emotional, with Nollywood stars and fans expressing their grief and disbelief on social media. Nkechi Blessing wrote, “Oh, death, why the sting?” while Paschaline Alex simply mourned, “Chim ooo.” Others called the loss a heavy reminder of life's fragility, with one fan writing, “Omo eh, like okay like okay,” and another saying, “I can’t even stand watching it, like it’s too much for me.” The final burial rites are scheduled for Thursday, June 18, 2026, with a funeral service to be held at the Mary Slessor School Field in Amanagwu Village, followed by interment at the family compound.

As the community of Arochukwu prepares to lay its beloved son to rest, the emotional footage of his arrival serves as a painful yet necessary moment of closure for those who knew and loved him, marking the end of an era for Nigerian cinema and the beginning of a lifelong goodbye.
