KANO, Kano State, Nigeria — June 20, 2026 — The Kano State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a businessman, Isma’il Makaye, who reportedly died at the residence of his girlfriend, a TikTok content creator known as Fati Cele, in the Danbare area of Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Friday, June 19, 2026, when residents were alerted by a reported fire outbreak at the woman’s residence.
According to sources close to the deceased, neighbours who responded to the alarm discovered Makaye inside the house with burn injuries and bloodstains on parts of his body.
The businessman, who was involved in the cosmetics business around the Hotoro Tishama area of Kano, was reportedly rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, popularly known as Nassarawa Hospital, for medical attention.
However, he was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.
A family associate said the deceased was buried on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Unguwa Uku Yan Awaki following the confirmation of his death.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, as police authorities have begun investigations to establish what happened inside the residence.
A source said operatives of the Dorayi Babba Police Division took the TikTok personality into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
“The police are investigating the matter, and she is currently being held while inquiries continue,” the source said.
Friends and associates of both Makaye and the woman reportedly said the pair had previously separated following disagreements but later reconciled before the incident occurred.
The death has generated reactions from residents and social media users, particularly on TikTok, where many expressed sadness and called for a transparent investigation.
Some users urged security authorities to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the businessman’s death are fully uncovered and that anyone found responsible is brought before the law.
As of the latest reports, the Kano State Police Command had not released an official statement detailing the findings of the investigation.
The command is expected to provide further information as inquiries continue.
