The All Progressives Congress has won the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election in Kano State, with its candidate Rabiu Shuaibu securing a decisive victory over two other contenders. Professor Umar Sani of Bayero University, Kano, who served as the Returning Officer, announced the final results at the collation centre on Saturday, June 20, 2026.
Shuaibu polled 35,356 votes, defeating Lawal Garba Haruna of the Allied Peoples Movement, who secured 268 votes, and Abubakar Yahya Muhammad of the Labour Party, who garnered 98 votes. Declaring the winner, Professor Sani said: "Rabiu Shehu Aibu of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected".
The by-election was conducted to fill the vacancy created by the death of Muhammad Danjuma‑Hassan of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), who had previously held the seat. The election was widely reported as peaceful and hitch‑free, with the Kano State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ambassador Abdu Zango, commending the orderly conduct of the exercise.
Notably, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), the party recently adopted by former Kano State Governor Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiyya movement, did not field a candidate in the contest. With Shuaibu’s victory, the APC has retained the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
