Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mary Njoku has cautioned against using religion as a tool for hatred and resentment, stressing that God’s judgment and favour cannot be influenced by personal grudges or malicious intentions.
The statement was made on June 22, 2026, through a message shared on her Instagram page. In the post, Njoku addressed what she described as religious fanatics, emphasizing that regular church attendance, extensive knowledge of scripture, and public displays of faith do not give anyone the power to determine another person's relationship with God or cancel divine blessings.
The actress said many people wrongly assume that intense religious activities automatically place them in a position to dictate how God should respond to others.
According to her, divine justice is not guided by bitterness, jealousy, or personal resentment.
She maintained that God examines the intentions of the heart and understands the true motives behind every action and prayer.
Njoku explained that genuine love, faithfulness, and sincerity remain qualities that God honours regardless of the opinions or judgments of other people.
She argued that spiritual devotion should not be used as a cover for hostility toward others.
The actress further noted that praying for the downfall of another person out of hatred does not align with the principles of faith and righteousness.
According to her, no amount of religious observance can justify malicious intentions directed at another individual.
Njoku warned that negative prayers often have unintended consequences, particularly when they are directed at people who have shown kindness, support, and goodwill.
She suggested that some individuals may unknowingly oppose people who have played positive roles in their lives.
The filmmaker stated that a person who becomes the target of resentment could even be someone whom God has used as an answer to prayers.
She stressed that harboring bitterness can cloud human judgment and distort perceptions of reality.
However, she added that while human beings may be influenced by emotions and prejudice, God cannot be deceived.
In the message, Njoku wrote that God's justice cannot be controlled by personal grudges and that divine favour is not withdrawn simply because someone chooses to hate another person.
She also emphasized that God remains aware of people's intentions, actions, and motivations, regardless of how they present themselves publicly.
The actress concluded by warning against allowing bitterness to dominate one's spiritual life, stating that resentment may blind the human heart but cannot blind God.
