A pregnant mother of three, identified as Chinelo Francis, an indigene of Ebonyi State, has been hospitalised after she was allegedly brutally assaulted by her husband, Peter, in Ichi, a community in the Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State. The incident, which occurred on the night of Friday, June 19, 2026, has sparked outrage among residents and social media users, with the husband reportedly fleeing the community after the attack. As at June 23, 2026, Stone Reporters await further independent investigation from the police force.

According to Chinelo’s account, the trouble began earlier that day when she asked her husband for money to prepare food for the family. She explained that she had already used the proceeds from her small business to purchase vegetables and needed additional money to complete the meal. However, Peter allegedly informed her that he had not made any money that day. He subsequently took their children home, leaving Chinelo at her shop.

The situation escalated later that evening when Peter returned to his wife’s shop around 8:00 p.m., demanding she close early and return home with him. She declined, explaining that the period between 8:00 p.m. and late evening was usually her peak sales period. The victim eventually closed her shop and returned home at 9:30 p.m. After putting her children to bed and retiring for the night, she was severely assaulted by her husband.

The violent attack left the pregnant woman with severe injuries, requiring urgent medical treatment and hospitalisation. The extent of her injuries and the condition of her pregnancy have not yet been officially disclosed. It was gathered that Peter fled the community shortly after the assault.

The case has sparked public concern and renewed calls for stronger action against domestic violence, particularly against women and vulnerable persons. Residents and rights advocates have urged relevant authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and bring anyone found culpable to justice. As of the time of this report, authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
