In a tragic turn of events, suspected terrorists have abducted a factional leader of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Comrade Bayo Fabiyi, and two other members of the group in Oko‑Irese, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. The abduction occurred on Monday, June 22, 2026, while the team was on a mission to deliver a ransom of ₦30 million, five motorcycles, and three bags of rice to secure the release of a previously kidnapped victim.

According to multiple sources, Fabiyi, accompanied by a driver and another associate, travelled to a thick forest in Oko‑Irese to deliver the items demanded by the terrorists. The team reportedly took the items to a hill inside the forest, which serves as a route linking Kwara and Kogi States, before they were suddenly seized at gunpoint.

Tragically, sources revealed that the abducted victim they were attempting to rescue had already been killed by the terrorists before the ransom team arrived, a fact unknown to Fabiyi and his companions. The victim was said to be a relative of a high‑profile politician in the state.

According to an aide of the OPC leader who spoke on condition of anonymity, Fabiyi had reportedly consulted a female spiritual leader within the OPC in Ilorin before embarking on the journey. The spiritual leader allegedly warned him not to proceed, claiming to have seen him tied up by the terrorists. Despite the warning, Fabiyi proceeded with the mission. “I was surprised that our boss still went on that trip. We didn’t even know that he went until this abduction incident happened,” a member of the group said.

When contacted, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, stated that the command had not been formally informed of any kidnapping incident involving an OPC member. “Nobody informed the police of any kidnap incident involving any OPC member, so we weren’t aware that anyone went to deliver ransom items to terrorists,” he said. The police commissioner added that the command would investigate the matter once a formal report was received.

As of the time of this report, the whereabouts of Fabiyi and the two other abductees remain unknown, and no group has claimed responsibility for the abduction. Security agencies have been urged to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
