A notorious terrorist kingpin, Kachalla Maha, accused of masterminding deadly attacks across communities in Katsina State and linked to the killing of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, has boasted in a viral audio recording that members of the Nigerian security forces deployed against him are secretly working for him and leaking operational intelligence from within government circles, while also threatening to abduct top government officials, including a state governor.

In the recording, believed to be of the terrorist commander speaking in Hausa with a government-linked figure addressed as "Comrade," Maha claimed he receives advance information about military operations, including strategic plans involving the Presidency. The audio message surfaced on Sunday, June 28, 2026, and was shared by verified X user Abdool Moh, according to multiple reports.

"I swear to God Almighty, all the security forces being sent to attack my camp are my boys. They inform me anytime they are coming," Kachalla Maha declared during the conversation. "I receive information about security strategies, including those involving the President. It is only because I allow them to operate. Otherwise, they would not even be able to use the roads". In one of the most alarming parts of the recording, the bandit leader claimed that some security personnel secretly work with him and routinely provide sensitive information about planned operations. "I do not like betraying people. If I wanted to, I could release voice recordings and other evidence to prove what I am saying. The way some of them listen to me is even more than the way they listen to their superiors. I have the ability to kidnap even a governor," he said.

Maha accused authorities of refusing to release his arrested associates and seized cattle, insisting that the government's actions had pushed him into escalating violence across affected areas. "You arrested my men, and I asked for their release. You refused. I promised that I would abduct many people, and I already have targets," he said. "I asked why my men and Aminu were arrested. Since they were not released, I don't care if they send thousands of soldiers. I am not tired, and I will not stop until I leave this world".

He further threatened that farming activities in several local government areas could be severely disrupted if his demands were not met, warning of more attacks on residents and security operatives. "If my cows are not released, I swear to God that people will not be able to farm in these local government areas. Call me a bastard if I fail," he said. "How can I embrace a government that is unjust and does not treat me fairly? They should have released my men. If my people and my cows are not released, then this situation will continue. It is the poor people who will suffer".

Kachalla also vowed to unleash more attacks on villages surrounding Katsina if the government failed to meet his demands. "What you've seen so far is only a little," Maha warned. "I swear by the greatness of God, if this is how things are going to be, if this is how the government will behave without justice, then what I've decided is this: I will go through all the villages around and capture and kill them all". "You heard what I already did. Whether they are women or government agents…".

The audio recording exposes the depth of insecurity, mistrust, and alleged infiltration of state security structures by armed groups terrorising parts of Northern Nigeria. The claim has raised serious concerns over possible intelligence leaks and internal compromise within security operations in the North-West, where banditry has remained a major threat despite ongoing military offensives. During the conversation, the government official repeatedly appealed to the terrorist leader to embrace peace and stop the killings ravaging communities across the state. But Kachalla Maha responded with threats of mass violence. When the Comrade challenged the justification for the killings, asking, "Those people you are killing, what offence did they commit?" Maha answered by accusing residents of collaborating with security operatives. "Their offence? They were the ones who called and reported us. They pointed out where the women were hiding. They are the reason the women were killed".

Kachalla also spoke about the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, claiming he allowed the deceased's body to be released for burial as a gesture of goodwill. "If not because I wanted peace, I would not have released his corpse for burial. I did that to show I am a man of peace," he allegedly stated. When told that the Katsina State Government was not directly responsible for the recent military operations, Kachalla dismissed the argument, insisting that the measures had little effect on him but had worsened the suffering of local residents. He threatened and warned that he would order his fighters to kill about 200 people if the authorities continued with the current security operations instead of meeting his demands.

As of the time of filing this report on Monday, June 29, 2026, the Katsina State Government and security agencies had not officially responded to the contents of the viral audio. However, security forces have intensified operations across the North-West, with the military previously announcing the elimination of several terrorist commanders. The claims made by Maha are expected to prompt a thorough investigation by security agencies to verify the allegations of intelligence leaks and internal compromise within the security apparatus.
