At least five people have been confirmed dead and eight others critically injured in a devastating road crash involving a trailer and a tanker in Agaie, Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State.
The fatal accident occurred on Sunday, June 28, 2026. Mr Hussaini Guregi, the Desk Officer of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for Agaie LGA, confirmed the incident to newsmen.
According to Mr Guregi, the crash involved a trailer conveying approximately 40 passengers, which was travelling from Gusau in Zamfara State to Shagamu in Ogun State. Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident was caused by a faulty tanker that had been left stationed on the road. As the trailer attempted to overtake the stationary vehicle, it lost control and crashed.
The impact of the collision resulted in five fatalities at the scene. The eight injured passengers were rushed to the General Hospital in Agaie for emergency medical treatment. The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Agaie.
Authorities have confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
