The arrest came as the Katsina State Police Command also recorded a separate security breakthrough by foiling a bandit attack in Dandume Local Government Area. According to the police, a distress call was received on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at about 6:30 p.m., reporting that a large group of armed bandits riding motorcycles had been sighted along the Kadisau-Sheme Road in Dandume LGA. The Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilised operatives from the Violent Crimes Response Unit and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps to the scene, where they engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun battle. Unable to withstand the superior firepower and tactical response of the combined security team, the bandits retreated into the surrounding bush, abandoning two operational motorcycles and a machete, which were recovered as exhibits.
While investigators were handling the domestic violence case, security operatives in Dandume recorded another success after repelling a large group of armed bandits attempting to infiltrate communities along the Kadisau-Sheme Road. According to the police, a distress call alerted officers that dozens of gunmen riding motorcycles had been sighted in the area. The Divisional Police Officer swiftly mobilised operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit alongside members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, who confronted the attackers in a fierce gun battle. Unable to withstand the superior firepower of the combined security team, the bandits fled into the surrounding bush, abandoning two operational motorcycles and a machete, which were recovered by the police.
The incidents highlight the range of security challenges facing Katsina State, from domestic violence to the persistent threat of banditry that has plagued the North-West region. The domestic attack, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, underscores the often hidden crisis of violence within homes, while the foiled bandit attack demonstrates the ongoing efforts of security forces to protect communities from armed criminal gangs. The Katsina State Police Command has intensified its efforts against all forms of crime and criminality under the leadership of CP Aliyu Umar Fage. The Commissioner of Police commended the officers and members of the Community Watch Corps for their bravery and reaffirmed the command's determination to sustain the offensive against banditry and other violent crimes.
CP Fage also warned against domestic violence, urging couples to seek peaceful and lawful means of resolving disagreements instead of resorting to violence. He appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains crucial to winning the fight against crime in Katsina State. The incident has sparked reactions across social media, with many Nigerians expressing shock at the brutal nature of the attack and calling for the suspect to face the full weight of the law. Others have used the opportunity to highlight the need for better support systems for families and more effective interventions to address domestic violence. As the investigation continues, the suspect remains in custody and is expected to face attempted murder charges upon the conclusion of the probe. The victim, who survived the attack, is reported to be responding to treatment, offering a glimmer of relief in an otherwise harrowing case that has captivated public attention across the state.
