The Abia State Police Command has identified and dismantled a suspected criminal camp located within the Unuobasi Forest in Umunneochi Local Government Area, dealing a significant blow to criminal networks operating in the state.
Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit of the Command, in collaboration with the local security outfit in Umuobasi, carried out the operation on June 28, 2026, leading to the destruction of the criminal camps and the disruption of criminal activities in the area. Monitoring of the area is still ongoing, according to a statement issued by the Command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, has assured members of the public that there will be no hiding place for criminals within the state. He reiterated the Command's unwavering commitment to its constitutional mandate of crime prevention and apprehension of criminals, emphasizing that the police will continue to take the fight to the enclaves of criminals.
The operation comes amid intensified efforts by security agencies across the South-East to dismantle criminal hideouts and restore peace to communities. The Abia State Police Command has urged members of the public to report any security concerns, suspicious persons, or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command's emergency hotlines.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to working with the public as partners in crime prevention, urging residents to "see something, say something." The police have assured residents that they will continue to intensify operations against criminal elements to ensure the safety and security of all residents.
