Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has urged young people chasing success to remain grounded in faith, warning that fame and achievement often come with distractions that can shift focus away from spiritual values.
The remarks were made on Friday, July 4, 2026, during an interview with Kiss Xtra, where the Nigerian singer reflected on his journey in the music industry and offered advice to aspiring creatives seeking to build careers in entertainment and other competitive fields.
Davido said the foundation of any success story should begin with self-belief and consistent hard work, noting that his own rise in music was shaped by continuous learning and dedication. He explained that during his early years, he relied heavily on digital platforms such as YouTube and guidance from people around him to improve his craft, which he described as essential to his growth as an artist.
The award-winning musician stressed that passion plays a critical role in sustaining ambition, adding that young people must genuinely love their chosen paths if they hope to excel. According to him, talent alone is not enough without persistence and a willingness to evolve over time.
Davido also addressed what he described as a common trend among some successful individuals, particularly in the entertainment industry, who drift away from religious practices after achieving fame. He warned that such detachment can lead to a loss of perspective, arguing that success should instead reinforce gratitude and spiritual awareness.
He further emphasised the importance of maintaining a close relationship with God, saying that success often brings new pressures, attention and lifestyle changes that can easily distract individuals from their original values and purpose.
According to him, many young people underestimate how quickly fame can alter their environment and mindset, making it necessary to stay spiritually anchored even while pursuing professional goals. He noted that recognition and wealth should not replace humility or faith.
Davido’s comments come amid ongoing public discussions about the role of religion in the lives of celebrities and how public figures navigate personal beliefs while living under constant public scrutiny.
The singer, who has remained one of Africa’s most influential music exports, has often spoken about his upbringing and the role of family and faith in shaping his career, even as he continues to dominate global music charts and international stages.
His latest remarks have resonated widely among fans, particularly young followers who see him as a model of success in the African entertainment industry.
