Suspected Terrorists Kill Retired Army Officer, Abduct Wife in Nasarawa Border Community

A quiet residential community along the Nasarawa–Federal Capital Territory border has been plunged into grief after suspected gunmen stormed a home in the early hours of Friday, killing a 61-year-old retired Nigerian Army officer and abducting a 40-year-old woman in a brazen attack that has once again exposed the vulnerability of communities straddling the nation's capital.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026, at Plot 038, PGC Community, located along the Nasarawa–FCT border near Jikwoyi, according to a report by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama . The attackers reportedly invaded the residence of Silas Orite, 46, and abducted his wife, Bukola Oluwatoyin Silas, 40, before fleeing to an unknown destination .

When news of the attack spread, the community's Chief Security Officer, Master Warrant Officer Reuben Yelwa, a 61-year-old retired Nigerian Army personnel, responded in a desperate attempt to assist the victims. He was shot dead by the assailants while trying to intervene . Police officers visited the scene after the attack, documented evidence and commenced investigations into the incident . Security operatives have intensified efforts to rescue the abducted woman unharmed and track down those responsible, while area domination operations have been reinforced to prevent further criminal activities in the vulnerable border region .

The attack adds to growing concerns over insecurity in communities located along the Nasarawa–FCT border, where residents have repeatedly called for stronger security measures to curb kidnappings and violent crimes .
