Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued four kidnap victims after successfully disrupting an attempted abduction by armed attackers in Surimi, a border community between Kebbi and Sokoto states.
The rescue operation took place on Friday, July 10, 2026, following credible intelligence received by security forces about the activities of suspected terrorists and kidnappers operating in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Acting on the information, troops swiftly mobilised to the affected area and engaged the attackers in a gun battle. The military said the troops applied superior firepower, forcing the assailants to abandon the kidnapped victims and retreat into nearby bush areas.
The rescued victims were immediately secured by the troops and later reunited with their families. Authorities confirmed that no casualty was recorded among the military personnel during the operation.
The operation is part of ongoing security efforts under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, which covers parts of the North-West region and aims to combat terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities affecting communities in the area.
Security sources said intelligence gathering and rapid response remain critical in tackling criminal networks that have continued to target rural communities, especially those located along state borders where criminals often exploit difficult terrain to carry out attacks.
The successful rescue has been welcomed as another operational achievement by security forces involved in efforts to restore stability across Kebbi, Sokoto and neighbouring states affected by insecurity.
The military has continued to encourage residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that cooperation between communities and security personnel remains essential in preventing attacks and protecting lives.
