Oyo Police Secure Safe Release of Abducted Farmer After Intense Joint Operation

The Oyo State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of Mr Owoade Mathew, a farmer who was abducted along the Igbojaye–Budo Aare bush road in Oyo State on Saturday, 11 July 2026. According to a press release issued on Monday, 13 July 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the victim regained his freedom on the evening of 13 July 2026 following sustained operational pressure mounted on his abductors.

The Command had earlier launched a coordinated joint security operation comprising Police operatives, personnel of the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, and hunters, who immediately commenced intensive combing of the surrounding forests to locate and rescue the victim. The operation was reinforced by the Command's Anti-Kidnapping Squad and other tactical teams, who worked assiduously with other security stakeholders to secure the victim's release.

According to the press release, the intense operational pressure mounted on the abductors forced the hoodlums to abandon the victim, who has since been taken to a medical facility for evaluation and necessary treatment. Upon completion of medical attention, he will be debriefed by investigators as part of the ongoing investigation aimed at identifying, apprehending, and prosecuting all those responsible for the criminal act.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, appreciated the unwavering support and cooperation of other security agencies, community members, and all well-meaning citizens throughout the operation. He reassured residents that the Command remains resolute in its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that criminal elements have no safe haven in Oyo State.
