The Upper Area Court No.1 sitting in Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State has remanded a 45-year-old man, Jediel Sylvester, at a correctional facility after he pleaded guilty to charges of incest, criminal intimidation, and assault, following a direct criminal complaint filed by his biological daughter and her uncle, Mohammed Audi. The defendant, a resident of Ganye LGA in southern Adamawa, was brought before the court on Monday, 13 July 2026, where he admitted to repeatedly having sexual intercourse with his own daughter, which resulted in a pregnancy.
Presiding over the case, Honourable Kabiru Musa ordered Sylvester's remand after he pleaded guilty to the charges. The prosecution was initiated through a direct criminal complaint filed by the victim and her uncle pursuant to Section 111 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Adamawa State, 2018. The case, marked UACG/NO1/CR/FI/113/26, revealed disturbing details of abuse spanning an extended period. The victim's uncle, Mohammed Audi, told the court that Sylvester is married to his sister, the victim's mother. He explained that the accused took the girl to a medical practitioner after she complained that her menstrual flow had ceased. A medical examination confirmed that she was three months pregnant.
According to Audi, when the pregnancy was confirmed, Sylvester allegedly pressured his daughter to accuse someone else of being responsible. However, the girl insisted that nobody else had ever had sexual intercourse with her. The uncle further alleged that the defendant then suggested terminating the pregnancy, but the victim rejected the proposal, describing it as dangerous and inappropriate. In her testimony before the court, the victim alleged that her father routinely beat, threatened, and intimidated her before forcing her to have sexual intercourse with him. She told the court that she had been subjected to repeated sexual abuse by her father.
When the charges were read and interpreted to him, Sylvester pleaded guilty and attributed his actions to "lust." The defendant is facing charges of incest, criminal intimidation, and assault, contrary to Sections 367, 382, and 242 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State. Following his guilty plea, the court ordered that he be remanded in a correctional facility pending further proceedings. The case has been adjourned to a later date for sentencing and further hearing.
