Kano Police, Customs to Hold Live Ammunition Training at Hawan Kalibawa Saturday, Warn Residents Not to Panic

The Kano State Police Command has issued a formal public notice informing residents of scheduled live ammunition shooting exercises to be conducted by the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Customs Service Training College at the Hawan Kalibawa Shooting Range in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area. According to a statement released on Thursday, July 16, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the police exercise is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., while the Customs Training College will conduct its own exercise from Monday, July 20, to Thursday, July 23, 2026, also between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily.

The police command has specifically advised residents of Dambazau, Gangaren Dutse, Tumfafi, Kakurum, Dandalama, and other nearby communities in Dawakin Tofa and Ungogo local government areas to avoid the shooting range during the exercises. The statement urged residents not to panic upon hearing gunshots, clarifying that the sounds would emanate from scheduled and controlled training exercises. The police assured the public that adequate safety measures had been put in place to safeguard lives and property before, during, and after the exercises.

The public notice, which has been widely circulated across local media platforms, comes as part of routine capacity-building programmes for security personnel aimed at enhancing marksmanship and operational readiness. The Kano State Police Command expressed appreciation for the usual cooperation, understanding, and support of the good people of Kano State. Residents are advised to remain calm and go about their normal activities while avoiding the designated shooting range areas during the specified periods.
