The Department of State Services (DSS) has rescued Professor Samuel Okunsebor, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), less than 48 hours after he was abducted by suspected kidnappers.

Professor Okunsebor was kidnapped around midnight on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, at Mile Uku, a boundary community between Lafia and Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State, according to security sources familiar with the incident.

Following the abduction, DSS operatives launched an intelligence-led operation involving surveillance and coordinated security efforts to locate the university lecturer and secure his release.

The operation resulted in the rescue of the professor at about 3:00 p.m. on Friday, 17 July 2026, with security officials confirming that he was found alive and unharmed. He was subsequently handed over to his family and officials of Nasarawa State University.

The rescued academic was taken for medical evaluation as part of post-rescue procedures to assess his physical and psychological condition following his time in captivity.

The DSS also confirmed the arrest of two suspects, a man and a woman, in connection with the kidnapping. The suspects are currently in DSS custody as investigators work to establish their alleged roles in the crime and uncover other members of the suspected criminal network.

Security sources said investigations are ongoing, with efforts focused on identifying and arresting additional suspects linked to the abduction.

The rescue comes amid continued concerns over kidnapping incidents affecting communities across Nigeria, including attacks targeting professionals, students, traditional leaders and other residents.

Security agencies have continued to emphasise the importance of intelligence gathering, community cooperation and coordinated operations in tackling kidnapping networks operating in different parts of the country.

The successful rescue of Professor Okunsebor adds to recent operations by Nigerian security agencies aimed at recovering abducted victims and disrupting criminal groups involved in kidnapping for ransom.
