The University of Calabar has reiterated its ban on wild post-examination celebrations and cult-related activities on campus, warning that any student or group found violating the directive will face sanctions. The institution's Registrar, Dr Chukwuka Icha, conveyed the management's directive in a statement on Monday, July 20, 2026, expressing concern over the conduct of some final-year students who engaged in unlawful celebrations after their final examinations.
According to the statement, such celebrations often involve reckless driving, flying of colours, and other forms of disorderly conduct. Icha advised all students, especially finalists, to desist from such acts and comply with the university's regulations. "The ban on wild celebrations within the campus, around the school gates and all cult-related activities remain in force," she said. "The management will not hesitate to sanction any student or group found violating the directive."
The university said the Acting Chief Security Officer has been directed to ensure strict enforcement of the ban across the campus and its environs. The directive comes as the institution prepares for its convocation ceremony and follows a 2024 incident where final-year students celebrating their last paper were involved in a serious crash on the school premises.
Students and members of the university community have been urged to take note of the directive and comply accordingly.
