A fatal road crash on Monday evening claimed the lives of two men at Olorunsogo, Leme area of Abeokuta South Local Government Area, Ogun State, the Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed. The incident occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m. on July 20, 2026, involving a black Lexus car with registration number KJA 398 JR and a black TVS motorcycle with registration number AYT 837 QU.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the Lexus, which was travelling at high speed, collided with the motorcycle. The impact was severe, killing the motorcyclist instantly from a fatal head injury. A second victim also died as a result of the crash, bringing the total number of fatalities to two.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the FRSC Ogun State Sector Command, Afolabi Odunsi, told journalists that a total of six adult males were involved in the crash. "Unfortunately, two adult males lost their lives, while no injury was recorded among the other persons involved," Odunsi said. He attributed the cause of the crash to speed violation, underscoring the persistent danger of excessive speed on Nigerian roads.
The FRSC rescue team received a distress call at 5:50 p.m. and arrived at the scene by 5:55 p.m., responding within five minutes. The rescue personnel evacuated the victims and deposited the bodies of the deceased at the State Hospital, Ijaye Mortuary, in Abeokuta. Personal belongings, including an identity card and a Tecno mobile phone, were recovered from the scene.
The Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, CC Oludare Ogunjobi, commiserated with the families of the deceased and urged all motorists, especially drivers and motorcyclists, to strictly obey speed limits, remain vigilant, and avoid dangerous driving behaviours. He emphasised that speeding significantly reduces reaction time and increases the severity of crashes.
The FRSC reiterated its commitment to ensuring safer roads through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment, and prompt rescue services. Members of the public were encouraged to promptly report road traffic crashes and emergencies to the FRSC through the National Emergency Toll-Free Number 122 or the nearest FRSC patrol team.
