The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspected cattle rustlers and recovered three stolen bulls valued at N1.73 million in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state, as security agencies intensify efforts to combat livestock theft and related crimes across rural communities.

The suspects, identified as 40-year-old Umaru Adamu, popularly known as Balawo, and 30-year-old Haruna Usman, also known as Dotti, were arrested on July 19, 2026. The two men, who are residents of Dawo Village in Kwami Local Government Area of Gombe State, were apprehended during a police operation based on intelligence received by security personnel.

The operation led to the recovery of three bulls believed to have been stolen from their rightful owners. The recovered animals were estimated to be worth N1.73 million and were taken into police custody as investigations into the alleged crime continued.

The Bauchi State Police Command said the arrest was part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal networks involved in cattle rustling and other forms of rural crime. Police authorities have continued to increase surveillance and intelligence operations in areas where livestock theft has remained a major concern for farmers and herders.

According to preliminary findings by investigators, the suspects allegedly acquired the stolen cattle from other individuals who are currently at large. Police said efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects believed to be connected to the alleged cattle theft operation.

Cattle rustling has remained a serious security and economic challenge in several parts of northern Nigeria, affecting livestock owners whose animals represent major sources of livelihood.
