The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Clement Anthony, for allegedly killing a 55-year-old man and unlawfully possessing a locally made firearm in Bauchi metropolis.
The suspect was arrested after the incident was reported at the ‘A’ Division Police Station in Bauchi Local Government Area on July 19, 2026. The report was lodged by a 47-year-old resident of Unguwar Ngas, who alerted the police about the alleged killing.
According to the police, officers commenced investigations immediately after receiving the complaint and later arrested Clement Anthony in connection with the incident. A locally fabricated firearm was also recovered from the suspect during the operation.
The spokesperson of the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Nafiu Habib, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying the suspect was being investigated over the alleged murder and possession of the weapon.
The police did not immediately disclose the identity of the deceased or provide further details on the circumstances surrounding the alleged killing. However, investigators have begun efforts to establish what led to the incident and determine whether other persons may have been involved.
The recovery of the locally made firearm forms part of the evidence being examined by detectives as they continue their investigation into the case.
Illegal possession of locally manufactured firearms remains a security concern in several parts of Nigeria, with law enforcement agencies frequently carrying out operations aimed at preventing violent crimes and reducing the circulation of unlicensed weapons.
The Bauchi State Police Command has assured residents that it will thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure that anyone found responsible is brought before the appropriate authorities.
