Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has officially handed over the newly constructed Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Northeast Zonal Office in Maiduguri to the board's outgoing Registrar and Chief Executive, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, and the incoming Registrar, Professor Segun Aina. The handover ceremony, which took place on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, was attended by senior officials of the Borno State Government and top management of JAMB, marking a significant milestone in efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure in the Northeast region.
The ultra-modern office complex, completed in just four months, is expected to enhance JAMB's operations across the region by improving service delivery to candidates, tertiary institutions, and other stakeholders. The project, valued at approximately N1 billion, was initiated earlier this year when Governor Zulum laid the foundation stone for the zonal office and a Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre located along the Maiduguri–Dikwa Road. The facility is designed to serve as a regional hub for candidates sitting for examinations for entry into institutions of higher education across Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.
Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Zulum reaffirmed his administration's commitment to supporting institutions that promote quality education and human capital development. He noted that the new facility reflects the state's determination to create an enabling environment for educational advancement. The governor had previously pledged to construct the office complex and CBT centre as part of his administration's broader strategy to strengthen educational infrastructure and improve access to examination services for students in the Northeast.
The project has received widespread commendation from JAMB leadership. Professor Oloyede, who is concluding his two-term tenure after 10 years at the helm of the board, had earlier lauded Governor Zulum for constructing the state-of-the-art facility. The outgoing registrar described the project as a significant contribution to education in the region. President Bola Tinubu had appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new JAMB Registrar, with his tenure set to begin after Professor Oloyede's term expires on July 31, 2026. Professor Aina, who was present at the handover ceremony, is the youngest registrar in JAMB's history, having been appointed at the age of 39. The handover of the Maiduguri zonal office to the new registrar marks the beginning of his tenure and underscores the importance of the Northeast region in the board's operations.
The completion of the JAMB Northeast Zonal Office in Maiduguri is expected to significantly improve access to JAMB services in the region, which has faced significant challenges due to the insurgency and displacement of communities. The facility will serve as a regional hub for candidates sitting for their examinations for entry into institutions of higher education, contributing to the continued development of Nigeria's education sector. Governor Zulum noted that the project is part of his administration's broader efforts to support education and human capital development in Borno State and the Northeast region.
