The President of the Dorowa Babuje Youth Council in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Pam Fom, was reportedly ambushed and shot dead on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, a day after publicly condemning an attack on his community that claimed the lives of two young men.

According to local accounts, Fom had granted media interviews on Tuesday, July 21, following an attack on Dorowa Babuje in which two residents were killed by armed assailants. During the interview, he condemned the violence and appealed for urgent intervention by security agencies to protect vulnerable communities in the area.

Community sources alleged that Fom was later ambushed and fatally shot by suspected armed attackers while travelling within Barkin Ladi Local Government Area. Some local leaders attributed the attack to suspected Fulani militias, although security agencies had not officially identified or confirmed those responsible at the time of reporting.

The killing has heightened tension in Barkin Ladi, a local government area that has experienced repeated outbreaks of violence in recent years. Dorowa Babuje has been one of the communities frequently affected by attacks, resulting in deaths, injuries and the displacement of residents.

On July 21, suspected gunmen attacked Dorowa Babuje, killing two people and forcing residents to flee for safety. Community leaders described the assault as unprovoked and called on the Federal Government, Plateau State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to protect lives and bring those responsible to justice.

The reported killing of Fom has further fuelled concerns over the safety of community leaders and youth representatives who speak out against insecurity in Plateau State.

Residents have renewed calls for increased security deployment across vulnerable communities in Barkin Ladi and neighbouring local government areas, warning that continued attacks could worsen displacement and undermine farming and other economic activities.

Security authorities had not issued an official statement specifically confirming the circumstances surrounding Fom's reported death at the time of publication.

The latest incident underscores the persistent security challenges facing Plateau State, where recurring violence has continued to claim lives despite repeated government assurances and security operations aimed at restoring peace.
