The Rivers State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate and rescued a woman who was abducted from her shop in Aluu Community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The command said the victim was rescued during an intelligence-led operation carried out by operatives of its Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), following a distress report from her husband.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Grace Iringe-Koko Agabe, the victim, identified only as Mrs. Ikechukwu, 35, was kidnapped on Saturday, July 11, 2026, while attending to customers at her shop in Aluu. The assailants allegedly forced her into a white-tinted mini-bus and drove her to an unknown destination.
The operation was launched after the victim's husband, identified as Mr. Ikechukwu, alerted the police. Acting on the directive of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, investigators tracked the suspects through intelligence gathering, leading to the woman's rescue and the arrest of four alleged members of the gang.
The suspects were identified as Owhor Chinedu (42) from Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, Isioto Waribok (30) from Andoni Local Government Area, Maduabuchi Emeka (34) from Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, and Joe Karachi (28), also from Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.
Police said officers recovered the white mini-bus allegedly used during the abduction. According to the command, preliminary investigations indicate that all four suspects confessed to their individual roles in the crime during interrogation.
The police added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend two additional members of the syndicate who remain at large and to recover the firearms allegedly used in carrying out the kidnapping.
Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju reaffirmed the command's commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across Rivers State. He urged residents to continue providing timely, credible and actionable information to assist security agencies in identifying and arresting criminal suspects.
The commissioner assured members of the public that all information received would be treated confidentially and reiterated that the command would continue deploying lawful strategies to protect lives and property while ensuring those responsible for criminal activities are brought to justice.
The latest operation represents another breakthrough in the Rivers State Police Command's ongoing efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks and improve security across the state.
