A community defender identified as CPG Zayyanu Kore Kebbe has been killed during an exchange of gunfire with armed bandits in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, according to reports, during an operation aimed at confronting criminal elements terrorising communities in the area. CPG Zayyanu, described as a courageous community defender, reportedly lost his life while engaging the attackers.
His death has sparked mourning among residents and security-conscious groups who have continued to rely on local defenders as a first line of protection against bandit attacks. Kebbe and surrounding areas in Sokoto have faced repeated security challenges, including attacks, kidnappings and displacement of residents.
