The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has congratulated three legal practitioners from the Ilorin Emirate on their elevation to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, describing the honour as a testament to their hard work, diligence, and commitment to the legal profession. The monarch's congratulatory message, contained in a statement issued on Sunday, July 26, 2026, by his spokesman, Dr Abdulazeez Arowona, came shortly after the Legal Practitioners' Privileges Committee approved a new list of legal practitioners for elevation to the rank of SAN, the highest professional distinction for advocates in Nigeria.

According to the statement, the newly confirmed SAN-designates from the Ilorin Emirate in the 2026 list released by the LPPC are the Kwara State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Sulyman Ibrahim; Barr. Mas'ud Alabelewe; and Barr. Mohammed Adelodun. The Emir said the elevation reflected the professional excellence and dedication of the beneficiaries to the legal profession, noting that the rank of SAN is the highest mark of professional excellence conferred on legal practitioners who have distinguished themselves as advocates in the courts. Sulu-Gambari urged the new Senior Advocates to uphold the ethics, integrity, and standards of the legal profession while serving as role models for younger lawyers.

"On behalf of the Ilorin Emirate and the entire people of Kwara State, I rejoice with these legal luminaries on this well-deserved elevation," the monarch said. "May Almighty Allah grant them more wisdom to continue contributing to justice delivery and national development." He also commended the Legal Practitioners' Privileges Committee for recognising excellence and for finding the sons of Ilorin Emirate worthy of the prestigious elevation. The Emir further prayed that Almighty Allah grants the new Senior Advocates guidance, protection, and success in their new status for the benefit of the nation and humanity at large.

The conferment of the SAN rank is widely regarded as one of the highest professional honours in Nigeria's legal sector. Candidates are subjected to a rigorous selection process overseen by the LPPC, which assesses professional competence, advocacy experience, academic contributions, and adherence to the standards of the legal profession. The latest recognition further highlights Ilorin's longstanding contribution to Nigeria's legal profession, as the Emirate has produced several prominent legal practitioners who have attained the rank of SAN and played significant roles in the judiciary, academia, public service, and private legal practice. Sulu-Gambari, who previously served as a Justice of the Court of Appeal before ascending the throne of Ilorin in 1995, has consistently used his position to celebrate professional excellence among sons and daughters of the Emirate, underscoring the importance of achievement, service, and integrity as values capable of inspiring younger generations.
