Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a suspected terrorist spy found lurking near the headquarters of the 25 Brigade in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State. The suspect was apprehended at about 10:15 p.m. on July 24, 2026, during a routine perimeter patrol conducted by troops of 25 Brigade.
According to security sources, the patrol team spotted the suspect hiding behind the first security barrier at the entrance leading from Damboa town to the Brigade headquarters, raising suspicion among the troops. Upon interception, a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a torchlight and a prayer rosary, after which he was taken into custody.
The suspect is currently being held at the 25 Medical Inspection Room, where he is undergoing preliminary interrogation as part of efforts to establish his identity, motives, and any possible links to terrorist elements operating in the area. Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the arrest underscores the continued vigilance of troops in safeguarding military installations against espionage and other threats posed by insurgent networks.
Military authorities noted that while the general security situation across the North-East theatre remains calm, it is still unpredictable, with troops maintaining a high level of alertness and sustained operational readiness. The arrest forms part of ongoing counter-intelligence and force protection measures aimed at preventing infiltration, surveillance, and other hostile activities targeting military formations in the North-East.
