The Nigerian social media space has been thrown into a fresh wave of controversy following the alleged secret wedding of popular relationship commentator and content creator, Emmanuel Obruste, widely known as Gehgeh. The development has triggered a cascade of reactions, with streamer and content creator Carter Efe leading the charge by accusing Gehgeh of destroying his 12-year relationship after the latter reportedly tied the knot in a private ceremony on Saturday, July 25, 2026. In an emotional video that has since gone viral, Carter Efe, who claims to be one of Gehgeh's students, broke down in tears while calling out the relationship coach for giving bad advice and betraying his followers.
According to Carter Efe, he had been in a happy relationship for over a decade, but Gehgeh allegedly convinced him to end it. The content creator, who had previously praised Gehgeh's advice, now claims that the relationship coach's counsel was misleading and ultimately destructive. "This boy convinced me, I left that girl," Carter Efe said in the viral video, struggling to contain his emotions. He went further to allege that Gehgeh, while encouraging him to end his relationship, was secretly planning his own wedding without informing him. "I have known that boy since 2008. He no fit even whisper am for my ear," he said, expressing his sense of betrayal.
The controversy deepened following the public statement made by Gehgeh's manager, who also accused him of betrayal. According to the manager, he had known Gehgeh since 2008 and was genuinely happy about the marriage, but he claimed that about three years ago, Gehgeh had persuaded him to leave his wife even though their marriage was going well. The manager alleged that he acted on the advice, left his wife and the home they shared, only to later discover through videos on Instablog and other social media platforms that Gehgeh had secretly tied the knot without informing him. "He did not even tell me. I only found out online after seeing videos announcing that Gehgeh had gotten married," he said, announcing the end of their working relationship and declaring that he was no longer Gehgeh's manager.
Gehgeh's wedding ceremony was reportedly so secretive that even those hired to work the event, including the decorator, caterer, photographer, and hotel management, were kept in the dark about the groom's identity. The videos of the private wedding quickly went viral, sparking widespread speculation about whether the ceremony was actually Gehgeh's own traditional wedding or that of another person. Captioning one of the videos, Gehgeh wrote, "So I no fit represent my brother wey dey abroad?" The remark, however, did little to convince many social media users, as the speculation intensified.
The controversy has once again placed Gehgeh at the centre of public conversation, with supporters and critics continuing to argue over whether his personal actions align with the opinions that made him one of Nigeria's most talked-about online commentators. The backlash comes shortly after Gehgeh disclosed in a recent interview that he has four baby mothers and is expecting children with two other women, a revelation that also triggered widespread debate.
