The political landscape in Osun State has witnessed a significant realignment as Governor Ademola Adeleke and the national leadership of the Accord Party formally adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party's presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. The endorsement, which followed a crucial meeting held on Saturday night in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, marks a major shift in the political calculations of the opposition party just weeks before the state's governorship election.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesman for the Adeleke re-election campaign, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the governor and the party's national leadership deliberated extensively on key national and party matters. Among the primary reasons cited for the endorsement was the need to allow the Tinubu administration to complete its ongoing legacy infrastructure projects across the country. The party leadership specifically highlighted the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road and the Sokoto-Badagry Highway as projects that must be delivered to their expected conclusion.

The meeting, which brought together top officials of the party and state chairmen from across the country, also reviewed preparations for the forthcoming Osun State governorship election scheduled for August. The Accord Party leadership appealed for a peaceful electoral process, warning against violence, voter intimidation, and electoral manipulation. The party also cautioned against the alleged use of security agencies to harass or intimidate its members and supporters during the election, calling on all stakeholders to ensure that the poll is conducted in a free, fair, and credible atmosphere.

Among the Accord national officers present at the meeting were the National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem; Deputy National Chairman, Maryam Sale; National Secretary, Ajaja Abiola Adebukola; and National Treasurer, Abdulazeez Oyeniyi Salaudeen. Others included the National Organising Secretary, Ibe Thankgod, and National Publicity Secretary, Omorogbe Joseph. The meeting was also attended by Accord state chairmen from across the country, alongside other national and state officials.

The endorsement effectively positions Tinubu as the presidential candidate the party intends to support in the 2027 general election, a move that signals a significant political realignment ahead of the next electoral cycle.
