The Delta State Police Command has recorded another significant operational success with the arrest of two suspected criminals and the recovery of firearms, live ammunition, suspected cocaine, and other incriminating exhibits during a stop-and-search operation along the Agbarho–Warri Road. The operation, carried out on Saturday, July 25, 2026, by operatives of the Command's Safer Highway Patrol, resulted in the interception of a grey Mercedes-Benz ML Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) bearing registration number AAA 604 JZ, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
The suspects were identified as Omini Ezeri, 46, and Chinedum Wagbara, 42, both residents of Port Harcourt, Rivers State. However, during preliminary interrogation, a third occupant of the vehicle, identified as God Knows Ifreke, suddenly took to his heels and escaped into a nearby swamp before he could be apprehended. A comprehensive search of the vehicle uncovered two locally fabricated Beretta pistols loaded with nine rounds of live ammunition, approximately 200 grams of a substance suspected to be cocaine, a walkie-talkie, a dagger, a grinder, and two sophisticated mobile phones believed to be of investigative value.
SP Edafe confirmed the arrest in a statement, noting that the suspects are currently in custody and assisting investigators, while efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing suspect. "The Delta State Police Command has recorded another significant operational success with the arrest of two suspected criminals and the recovery of firearms, live ammunition, suspected cocaine, and other incriminating exhibits during a stop-and-search operation carried out by operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol along the Agbarho–Warri Road on 25 July 2026," the statement read.
Commending the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, described the operation as another testament to the Command's commitment to combating violent crime, illegal arms possession, and drug trafficking across the state. He reaffirmed the Command's resolve to ensure that Delta State remains a hostile environment for criminals and all those involved in the unlawful possession of firearms and trafficking in illicit drugs. The Commissioner also appealed to residents to support ongoing security operations by providing timely, credible, and actionable intelligence capable of preventing crime and facilitating the arrest of criminal elements.
The Delta State Police Command has in recent months intensified intelligence-led operations and highway patrols aimed at disrupting criminal networks, intercepting illegal arms, and combating drug trafficking as part of broader efforts to improve security across the state. The arrest of the two suspects and the recovery of the weapons and illicit substances mark another breakthrough in the Command's sustained crackdown on crime, as authorities continue to work towards making the state safer for all residents.
