Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested two suspected terrorist informants and cattle rustlers during a joint intelligence-led operation with local hunters at the Buni Yadi Friday Market in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State. The operation, which took place at about 2:00 p.m. on July 24, 2026, was carried out by troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade in conjunction with members of a hunters' group, acting on credible intelligence regarding the activities of suspected criminal elements operating within the community.
According to military sources, the suspects were identified as Muhammadu Sani, 32, from Mainahari village in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, and Buba Umaru, 40, from Garin Jauro in Fune Local Government Area of Yobe State. The operation turned violent when one of the suspects attacked a member of the hunters' group with a cutlass while resisting arrest. The hunter sustained severe head injuries during the attack and was immediately attended to, while the troops overpowered and apprehended the suspects.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Muhammadu Sani confessed to serving as a logistics supplier and informant for Boko Haram terrorists for nearly seven years. He also admitted to leading terrorists to the residences of two local residents, where the insurgents successfully rustled cattle during separate attacks. Security sources believe the information obtained from the suspect could strengthen ongoing efforts to identify and dismantle networks that provide support to terrorist groups operating in the North-East.
During the raid, troops also recovered three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, one locally made pistol, assorted ammunition, and four mobile phones believed to be linked to the suspects' criminal activities. The two suspects are currently in the custody of the 27 Task Force Brigade and are undergoing further investigation to determine the extent of their involvement in terrorist logistics, intelligence gathering, and cattle rustling activities.
In a statement on Sunday, the spokesman of the operation, Mohammed Goni, confirmed the arrests and said the Operation has remained resolute in its commitment to denying terrorists and other criminal elements freedom of action across the North East through sustained intelligence-driven operations. The military urged members of the general public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest security agency. Security officials said the arrest underscores the critical role played by local intelligence and collaboration between troops and community-based security groups in identifying individuals who provide logistical support and operational information to terrorist elements.
The arrest of the two suspects is the latest in a series of operations targeting terrorist collaborators, informants, and logistics networks as part of ongoing efforts to deny insurgents the local support structures that sustain their operations across the North-East. Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have continued to intensify offensive operations against terrorist groups and their support networks, recording significant successes in intercepting key logistics suppliers aiding insurgents in both Borno and Yobe states. The military has stressed that timely and credible information from law-abiding citizens remains critical to ongoing efforts to safeguard communities and enhance security across the region.
