A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and Director-General of the Presidential Support Organisation, Alhaji Umar Jijiwa, has said that Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, the self-acclaimed Director-General of the now infamous Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, fell into what he described as "the trap of excessive ambition" . Jijiwa, who is also a prominent member of the APC and a supporter of President Bola Tinubu, made the remarks while reacting to the growing controversy surrounding the phantom presidential agency that allegedly secured a N1.3 billion allocation in the 2026 Appropriation Act . The PFIPC scandal has thrown the Tinubu administration into one of its most embarrassing controversies, with Adeyemi facing charges of forgery and impersonation after allegedly forging official documents to establish himself as head of a council the Presidency says was never legally created .
Jijiwa, in his comments, dismissed Adeyemi's claims that he paid N400 million to Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to secure his appointment, questioning the logic of making such allegations without providing evidence. "You cannot claim you gave someone money through another person without any evidence of the transaction," Jijiwa said. He also advised young Nigerians against falling into the trap of excessive ambition, warning that the desire for power and recognition could lead to naivety. "It is a situation where someone is so ambitious that they become naïve. Many young people fall into the same trap," he added . The APC chieftain also sought to distance Gbajabiamila from the allegations, insisting that he knows Prince Adeniyi as a loyal member of the party and a supporter of President Tinubu, but stressed that such loyalty alone does not qualify anyone to become the Director-General of a government agency . His comments come amid a growing chorus of voices calling for a thorough investigation into the PFIPC scandal, with President Tinubu directing the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to investigate and submit a report within 30 days . The ICPC has already questioned Gbajabiamila, who has denied all allegations and filed a N15 billion defamation suit against Adeyemi . As the investigation continues, Jijiwa's warning against excessive ambition resonates as a cautionary tale for those who seek to bypass due process in their pursuit of power and influence.
