A search for a missing National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Bayelsa State has ended in tragedy after his body was discovered in a creek in the Nembe Local Government Area, sparking grief and calls for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. The deceased, identified as Okebaram Stanley Chimaroke, a 27-year-old Civil Engineering graduate of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede and former President of the institution's Students' Union Government, was reportedly serving in the Nembe Creek area at the time of his disappearance.

According to police sources, the case was reported at approximately 8:40 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, by a fellow corps member, Aribisola Bisi Isaac, who was accompanied by Adeola Marvelous. The Local Government Inspector informed the reporting corps members that Chimaroke was last seen at about 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026. Concern mounted when repeated attempts to reach him via his mobile phone proved unsuccessful.

Following the report, the Bayelsa State Police Command mobilised operatives to the creek community, which is located about 45 minutes by boat from the Nembe Divisional Headquarters. The police had earlier launched a search operation following his disappearance. After days of searching, Chimaroke's lifeless body was allegedly recovered from a body of water in the Nembe area.

While authorities have yet to officially confirm the exact circumstances surrounding his death, some sources have suggested that the corps member may have been attacked by yet-to-be-identified assailants before his body was recovered. Information circulating among colleagues and associates indicated that he may have been killed and his body dumped in the water. However, as of the time of filing this report, the Bayelsa State Police Command has not officially confirmed the reported recovery of the body or established the exact circumstances surrounding his death.

The tragic news has sent shockwaves through the academic and youth service communities, with friends, colleagues, and student bodies expressing profound grief over the loss of the vibrant former student leader. Chimaroke, a former SUG President of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, was described as a promising young man whose untimely passing has left many in mourning. Calls have been made for security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation and swift justice for the perpetrators.

As the investigation continues, the NYSC and the Bayelsa State Police Command have yet to issue official statements regarding the incident. The tragic death of Okebaram Stanley Chimaroke serves as a sombre reminder of the dangers faced by corps members serving in remote and volatile areas of the country. The public awaits further updates from the authorities as they work to unravel the mystery surrounding this heartbreaking loss.
