A clergyman has been killed and two members of his congregation critically injured in a fresh attack on Fubok village in the Daffo district of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, marking another tragic chapter in the recurring violence that has plagued the state. The attack, which occurred on the night of Thursday, July 30, 2026, was reportedly carried out by terrorists suspected to be Fulani militias, according to multiple sources.
Conflict journalist Masara Kim Usman, who confirmed the attack in a post on his Facebook page on Friday, July 31, 2026, stated that the assailants laid siege to the community on Thursday night and unleashed violence on the residents. The attack led to the killing of the pastor, identified as Pastor Philibus, and the critical injury of two members of his church. Usman further revealed that before the Fubok attack, the terrorists had attacked a nearby village where they also killed three people. “Terrorists reportedly invaded Fubok late evening hours after killing three residents, leaving a Pastor dead and two of his members critically injured,” he wrote.
In a separate but related incident on the same night, gunmen killed a middle-aged man, identified simply as Mr. Bulus, in the Ncha community of Miango District, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. The National Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA), Danjuma Dickson Auta, confirmed the incident to Vanguard on Friday and condemned the attack, describing it as another unprovoked assault on peaceful residents. According to Auta, the victim was ambushed, killed, and his body dumped in a shallow stream by the attackers. A community member, Mr. Ewo Haruna, described the incident as tragic and another painful reminder of the persistent insecurity confronting the area.
Residents of the affected communities in both Bassa and Bokkos Local Government Areas have expressed grief and frustration over the recurring attacks, saying the continued violence has left many families displaced and living in fear. The attacks come just days after a prior security alert was raised by the President of the Berom Youth-Moulders Association, Barr. Solomon Mwantiri, who warned of an impending attack and advised travelers to avoid the Dorowa Babuje axis.
Efforts to reach the Plateau State Police Command Spokesman, SP Alfred Alabo, for further details were unsuccessful at the time of this report. As the community mourns its dead and the injured receive medical treatment, the attacks serve as a stark reminder of the persistent insecurity that continues to threaten lives and livelihoods in Plateau State.
