The management of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, has refuted claims circulating on social media that one Mr. Pascal Omofomah, popularly known as "Don P," is a staff member of the institution, stating that an internal verification has established that the individual is not in its employment and has no official affiliation with the university. The clarification, issued on Sunday, August 2, 2026, follows a viral online publication and video alleging that the individual, described in the report as a member of staff in the Department of Public Administration, sexually harassed a 100-Level female student with a promise to upgrade her academic results in exchange for sexual favours.
In a statement signed by the Principal Assistant Registrar and Head of Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, the university said its internal verification had confirmed that Omofomah's name does not appear in the university's staff records and that he is unknown to the institution in any official capacity. Management therefore urged members of the public and the media to disregard reports portraying him as an employee of Ambrose Alli University, describing such claims as false, misleading, and capable of damaging the institution's reputation. The university, however, clarified that its statement relates solely to the employment status of the individual and should not be interpreted as a pronouncement on the allegations contained in the circulating publication. It noted that any investigation into the substance of the allegations rests with the appropriate law enforcement and other competent authorities.
Reaffirming its commitment to the protection of students, the university reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on sexual harassment, exploitation, and all forms of misconduct, stressing that it remains committed to providing a safe, secure, and conducive learning environment for all members of its community. Management also encouraged students and other members of the university community to promptly report cases of harassment, intimidation, extortion, or unethical conduct to the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, the Dean of Students' Affairs Division, or the Information, Protocol and Public Relations Unit. It assured that all complaints are handled with strict confidentiality and in accordance with the university's rules and regulations.
The institution reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct, pledging to continue safeguarding its reputation while ensuring that anyone found culpable of misconduct is dealt with in line with extant laws and institutional regulations. The university has previously taken disciplinary action against staff members for sexual misconduct, including the dismissal of 13 academic and non-academic staff in 2023 for offences ranging from fraud and extortion to sexual harassment. The case highlights the persistent challenge of sexual harassment in Nigerian tertiary institutions, where students, particularly young women, often face predatory behaviour from staff members who exploit their positions of power.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) had earlier called on the management of Ambrose Alli University to ensure that allegations of sexual misconduct are thoroughly investigated and perpetrators held accountable. The university's clarification regarding Omofomah's employment status does not resolve the broader issue of sexual harassment but underscores the institution's commitment to investigating and addressing such cases when they arise. As the legal process unfolds, the university has urged students and staff to rely on verified information and report any incidents of misconduct through the appropriate channels, assuring the public that it remains dedicated to creating a safe and respectful environment for all members of its community.
