Nigerian businessman and social commentator Prince Isaac Fayose has launched a blistering attack on President Bola Tinubu over the worsening economic hardship in the country, pointing to the large number of street urchins and beggars who gathered outside the star-studded wedding of content creators Peller and Jarvis as stark evidence of the rising hunger gripping the nation. In a video posted on his official Facebook page on Sunday, August 2, 2026, Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, said the scene outside the Lagos wedding venue reflected a country in deep economic distress.
Reacting to the wedding ceremony of popular TikTok star Habeeb Hamzat, known as Peller, and his wife Elizabeth Amadou, popularly called Jarvis, which took place on Friday, August 1, Fayose said he observed a troubling disparity between the glamour inside the venue and the desperation outside. "Jarvis and Peller, congratulations to you. I saw many good people there but I saw more of the area boys on the street. The area boys are even more than the guests," he said. "That shows that there is a massive hunger in the land. I saw the area boys running after cars, humbling themselves and accepting their fate that they are born to be hungry".
Fayose directly blamed President Tinubu for the deteriorating economic conditions, accusing the administration of lacking a coherent strategy to address widespread hunger and poverty. He took particular issue with a recent comment by the President, who reportedly said that hunger had existed long before he was born. "Our President came out and said that before he was born, there was hunger. Now the hunger has tripled," Fayose said. "There is no hunger in the UK and US but in his own dictionary, Tinubu said hunger has been there, so why did he force himself into power to re-enthrone and reinforce hunger?".
The businessman also criticised the President's communication style, arguing that Tinubu had failed to connect with ordinary Nigerians or present a convincing economic plan. "Tinubu doesn't have an idea of how to talk to the masses these days. No economic strategy to tackle this hunger in the land," he said. Fayose further claimed that the severity of the hardship had left many Nigerians so overwhelmed that they had lost the capacity for anger. "Hungry man in Nigeria is no longer angry, we are too hungry to be angry. People are completely enslaved by this APC government," he declared.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Fayose dismissed political slogans and campaign theatrics as irrelevant to citizens struggling to survive. "An election is coming and they are forming City Boy and Mama's boy, but people that are hungry are not forming anything," he said.
The wedding of Peller and Jarvis, one of the most talked-about social events of the year, attracted a host of celebrities, including Zinoleesky, Iyabo Ojo, Cubana Chief Priest, Daddy Freeze, and Fuji musician Sule Alao Malaika. The couple received lavish gifts, including a ₦400 million mansion from real estate mogul King Ochacho and a ₦150 million plot of land from Promiseland Estate. However, Fayose's commentary shifted the focus from the celebration of wealth to the stark economic realities facing millions of Nigerians who were left outside the gates, hoping for scraps from the privileged few inside.
Fayose's remarks have drawn mixed reactions on social media, with some users agreeing that the scene outside the wedding was a sobering indictment of the country's economic crisis, while others dismissed his comments as politically motivated. However, his observation that the number of street beggars and area boys at the event appeared to outnumber the invited guests has resonated with many Nigerians who have grown increasingly frustrated with the rising cost of living and the government's perceived inability to provide relief. The critique adds to a growing chorus of voices demanding urgent action to address the deepening economic hardship, as the countdown to the 2027 elections continues.
