Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has made a candid confession about his past financial habits, revealing that he used to take loans to sustain a flamboyant lifestyle and that he once lived a "fake life" to impress others. The actor made the disclosure during a recent appearance on the MENtality podcast, where he reflected on his evolving perspective on wealth, happiness, and material possessions, according to multiple reports published on Monday, August 3, 2026.
Egbuson, known for his stylish and often extravagant public persona, admitted that he once prioritised appearances over financial stability, spending lavishly on fashion, luxury items, and maintaining a glamorous image. He revealed that he had been a serious perfume collector, amassing about 150 bottles, but later realised that the money he spent on the collection could have been better invested in purchasing land. "There will always be a newer watch, a newer car. I used to be a perfume collector. I had about 150. But I realised that I could have invested the money I spent acquiring perfumes in purchasing land," he said.
The actor explained that his views on success and fulfilment have evolved over time, noting that material possessions should not become the basis of an individual's happiness. He questioned whether the pursuit of luxury items is driven by genuine personal desire or by peer pressure and the need to project a certain image on social media. "I'm not trying to talk down on having a nice car or watch. But are you doing it for yourself or because of peer pressure? Are you genuinely happy with it? And without it, would you still be happy?" he asked.
Egbuson also revealed that he has experienced periods of financial difficulty but learned the importance of maintaining a positive outlook regardless of his circumstances. He cautioned against the pressure created by social media, warning that constantly trying to project an unrealistic image could become emotionally exhausting. "There are times when I have been broke, but my energy is always the same because I found a way to be happy with whatever I have," he said. He added: "For people who are watching me, I always try to let them know that there will be bad and good days. And if you dwell on the bad days and you can't find yourself, you can't step out or create content, that means you are living a lie. And I wonder how long you can live that lie."
Reflecting on his past, Egbuson admitted that he once prioritised appearances over financial stability. "I used to be that guy who lived a fake life and borrowed to impress people. But not anymore," he said. His candid remarks have sparked conversations about the pressures of maintaining a certain image in the entertainment industry and the importance of financial prudence, as the actor, who is known for his roles in films such as Sugar Rush and The Razz Guy, continues to be one of Nollywood's most recognisable faces.
