Troops of Sector 3, Operation HADIN KAI, in conjunction with the Multinational Joint Task Force, have arrested two suspected logistics suppliers to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during an intelligence-led operation in Monguno, Borno State. The suspects, identified as Bukar Kaka Modu, 30, and Abubakar Musa, 30, were apprehended at approximately 4:30 p.m. on August 3, 2026, at the C-19 checkpoint in Monguno following sustained surveillance and intensified operations aimed at disrupting terrorist supply networks, according to intelligence sources and security analyst Zagazola Makama.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to transporting food items and other supplies to ISWAP fighters operating in Kwatan Dowoshi Village in Kukawa Local Government Area. Items recovered from them included 11 cartons of biscuits, 192 sachets of biscuits, one carton of Peak milk, 10 mudu of sugar, nine bars of Viva soap, six headlamps, two bags of garri, 16 rolls of sachet garri, three packs of lighters, two Tecno button phones, one assault knife, one charm belt, four prayer beads, six packs of herbal medicine, and ₦6,600 cash. Crucially, troops also recovered an alleged ISWAP-issued gate pass, believed to have been used to facilitate access to terrorist-controlled locations, as well as sundry items linked to the insurgents' logistics network.
The arrests come barely two weeks after a similar operation on July 19, 2026, when troops of 19 Battalion and 25 Task Force Brigade Garrison intercepted two brothers—Audu Abdullahi, 25, and Shettima Abdullahi, 30—in the Nzuda general area of Damboa Local Government Area. The brothers, natives of Kasabalari village, were caught transporting supplies intended for ISWAP fighters operating in the Wajiroko general area. Items recovered from that operation included two bicycles, a mobile phone with two SIM cards, an identity card, two bicycle tyres and tubes, six containers of Force Up pesticide, painkiller medication, a small solar panel, a rechargeable torchlight with battery, and two locally made knives. Preliminary investigation confirmed that the two suspects were biological brothers actively involved in the insurgents' logistics chain.
The latest arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by Operation HADIN KAI to dismantle ISWAP’s logistics and supply networks, which security authorities consider critical to sustaining the terrorist group’s operations in the Lake Chad region. The suspects and the recovered exhibits have been taken into custody at the Headquarters of Sector 3 for further investigation and necessary action. Military sources said the security situation across the theatre remains relatively calm but unpredictable, while troops continue to maintain a high level of operational readiness and sustained pressure on terrorist elements. The military has reaffirmed its commitment to degrading terrorist capabilities and protecting civilian populations through targeted, intelligence-led operations across the North-East.
