The examination, which was conducted from April 24 to June 19, 2026, saw 1,959,668 candidates from 24,207 schools enrol for the examination across Nigeria, Benin Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, and Equatorial Guinea, with 1,950,726 candidates eventually sitting for the papers. Among the candidates, 1,834,695 had their results fully processed and released, while the results of 116,031 candidates are still being processed. The examination body withheld the results of 167,486 candidates, representing 8.59 per cent, over examination malpractice, a slight decrease from the 9.7 per cent recorded in 2025.
For candidates who wish to check their results, the process is straightforward but requires a valid WAEC Result Checker e-PIN and its corresponding Serial Number. Candidates can obtain these by visiting the official WAEC portal at waeconline.org and purchasing the e-PIN for ₦5,000. After completing the payment and receiving the Serial Number and PIN, candidates should visit waec.org, enter their 10-digit examination number, select 2026 as the examination year, select School Candidate Result as the examination type, and enter the e-PIN and Serial Number before clicking Submit to view their results. Candidates can also check their results via the WAEC Result Checker mobile app, available on the Google Play Store, or by sending an SMS in the format WAECExaminationNumberPIN*ExaminationYear to 32327 on MTN, Glo, or Airtel networks.
WAEC grades range from A1 to F9, with A1, B2, and B3 representing Distinction and Merit, C4, C5, and C6 representing Credit Passes, D7 and E8 representing Ordinary Passes, and F9 representing a Fail. For admission into most Nigerian universities, candidates generally need at least five credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics, with C6 being the minimum acceptable credit grade. Candidates whose results have been withheld are advised to visit their school's examination officer or the nearest WAEC state office with their examination number for clarification, as their results are under investigation for suspected examination malpractice.
The 2026 WASSCE marked the second year the Council conducted the Computer-Based WASSCE for school candidates. Key innovations introduced include the Digital Examiner Mark System (DEMS) for faster processing, serialisation of question papers to combat malpractice, and a new portal that allows candidates to directly generate e-PINs to check their results. Candidates can now check their results within 12 hours of release at www.waecdirect.org, with digital certificates available 48 hours after checking results online and hard copies available in 90 days. Registration for the Private Candidates 2026 Second Series is ongoing at N37,500, with walk-in candidates allowed to participate.
