A fresh and explosive war of words has erupted between two heavyweight chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with Chief Bode George launching a blistering personal attack on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and vowing to take him to court over an allegation linking his Abuja residence to funds from Rivers State. In a no-holds-barred interview on TVC News on Wednesday night, August 5, 2026, George dismissed Wike's claims as "absolute rubbish" and descended into a deeply personal assault, saying the minister was publicly disowned by his biological father and should be taken to a psychiatric hospital.
The explosive exchange was triggered by remarks made by Wike during his monthly media chat in Abuja on Tuesday, August 4, where he described George as the "father of corruption" and challenged him to explain the source of funds used to acquire his Maitama residence in the Federal Capital Territory. "This man from Lagos, Bode George, when they talk about corruption, ask him about the house he is living in Maitama. Is it not Rivers State money?" Wike had said, alleging that the property was funded with resources from the Rivers State Government during his tenure as governor. The FCT minister also questioned George's standing as a founding father of the PDP, arguing that the party had not won any significant election in Lagos since 1999 under his watch.
Reacting to the allegations, George launched a fierce counter-attack, dismissing the claims as false and describing them as the outburst of a man who needs urgent psychiatric attention. "I said to myself that that young man needs to be immediately taken to the psychiatric hospital. He's talking absolute rubbish," George said. The PDP chieftain categorically denied that his Abuja residence had any connection with Rivers State funds, explaining that he purchased the property through an agent from its previous owner, a retired civil servant, rather than building it himself. "I didn't even build the house. The house was already built; I bought it, and it's still there. The agent got it for me, and the owner was a retired civil servant. So what has Rivers State got to do with it?" George said. He further dismissed Wike's allegation as illogical. "Am I from Rivers State? Is Rivers State a bank for me to go and borrow money? What has he got to do with the price of milk? It's my house."
In one of his strongest public responses to the FCT minister, the elder statesman said it was beneath his status to engage in a war of words with someone he described as "a child," before alleging that Wike had been publicly rejected by his father. "It's an infra-dignitatem for me to respond to a child who is just about the same age as my first child. Go and find out about him, what his father did to him and what he did to his father. In Africa, if your biological father publicly disowns you, you know what that means?" George said. He added that he pitied Wike's family and insisted that the minister's allegations were baseless. He alleged that Wike's estrangement from his own father should disqualify him from lecturing others on corruption.
George also revealed that he would seek legal redress against the minister over the allegations, vowing to sue him for defamation. "I'm going to sue him to court for all the shenanigans and the thoughtlessness. I'm sure he was high on something," he said. The PDP chieftain also urged those around President Bola Tinubu to distance the President from Wike, saying the minister was not providing useful advice. "It's high time this guy in the Villa should move away from him. You don't need him for anything."
When asked whether he would be willing to reconcile with Wike if the survival of the PDP required both men to work together, George suggested the relationship had deteriorated beyond repair. "How? He got to a point where he sank himself," he said.
The exchange is the latest in a running feud between the two PDP chieftains over the party's leadership crisis. Wike had accused George of repeatedly branding the judiciary corrupt whenever court judgments went against him, alleging the pattern only applied whenever he lost a case. George had recently petitioned the National Judicial Council over a Federal High Court judgment of July 17 that dismissed a suit filed by the Adolphus Wabara-led faction of the PDP Board of Trustees and awarded N140 million costs against the plaintiffs.
The dispute comes amid the lingering leadership crisis within the PDP, which has continued to pitch prominent party leaders against one another over the party's direction and internal affairs. Wike's allegations and George's fierce response have further deepened the rift, with both men digging in and ruling out any possibility of reconciliation. As George prepares to take legal action, the war of words between the two PDP chieftains shows no signs of abating, and the party's internal crisis appears far from resolution.
