The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 25‑year‑old nursing officer and a 20‑year‑old woman for allegedly abducting a one‑and‑a‑half‑year‑old baby boy from the paediatric ward of Babura General Hospital, with the female suspect confessing that she planned to sell the child for ₦2 million. The command’s spokesman, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, disclosed the arrests in a statement issued to journalists on Thursday, August 6, 2026, confirming that the baby had been recovered and placed in protective custody.
According to the police, the abduction came to light after the hospital raised a distress call reporting the child’s disappearance. Operatives immediately launched an intelligence‑led investigation and tracked the female suspect, identified as Khadija Aliyu, 20, of Kinkinau Quarters in Kaduna State, to the outskirts of Babura town, where she was allegedly found in possession of the abducted toddler. During interrogation, Aliyu reportedly confessed that she had taken the child to an orphanage in Kaduna State with the intention of selling him for ₦2 million.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Sadik Sale Yahaya, 25, a nursing officer attached to Babura General Hospital, who allegedly conspired with the woman to carry out the abduction. The police said the nursing officer’s involvement was uncovered as detectives worked to establish the full extent of the conspiracy. Both suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue, with the command vowing to bring anyone found to have played a role in the abduction to justice.
The rescued child has been placed in protective custody and is expected to be reunited with his biological family after the completion of necessary procedures and verification by the relevant authorities. The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, commended the operatives for their bravery and professionalism in rescuing the child and apprehending the suspects, while urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support crime prevention and public safety across the state.
