A serving Nigerian senator has been caught on video openly inciting his supporters to kill members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday's governorship election in Osun State, sparking outrage and urgent calls for his arrest from the campaign organisation of Governor Ademola Adeleke. Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, was filmed addressing APC supporters in Ilesa, where he issued the chilling directive: "From now till the election day, if we see them, kill them o."
The video, which went viral on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, shows the lawmaker speaking in Yoruba to a crowd of supporters. According to translations of his remarks, Fadahunsi said: "What kind of life is that? If we hear anything about Accord in Ilesa here, record me and go and tell them. When we tell them the cap they are putting on is a bad one, a yellow one. So, we have come to tell you now, from now till the election day, if we see them, kill them o." In another part of the footage, he reportedly warned that even if Accord Party members with Permanent Voter Cards wanted to vote on Saturday, they would not be allowed to do so.
The video was first amplified by Afrobeats superstar Davido, who is the nephew of Governor Adeleke. Davido shared the footage on his X handle, drawing widespread attention to the senator's remarks. The Imole Campaign Council, the organisation coordinating Governor Adeleke's re-election bid, swiftly condemned the senator's comments in a press statement on Tuesday. The council described the remarks as "despicable" and "condemnable," and demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of Fadahunsi.
"We are gravely alarmed and disturbed by a trending video of the Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, where he was seen and heard inciting members of the APC to kill our party members and supporters wherever they are found in Ijeshaland," the statement, signed by Rep. Bamidele Salam, Chairman of the council's Media and Publicity Committee, read in part. The campaign council alleged that the senator's threat confirmed weeks of intelligence about the importation of thugs, hoodlums and fake policemen into Ilase, the senator's hometown, and other parts of Ijeshaland.
The council also accused Fadahunsi of using his influence to harass and intimidate Accord Party leaders, citing the case of Popoola Alaba, the Accord Party candidate for Ijesa South Federal Constituency, who was arrested and has not been released. The council alleged that the arrest was masterminded by Fadahunsi and executed by ASP Wemimo, an aide of the senator, who led IRT personnel to the homes of Accord Party leaders in Ijeshaland in recent weeks.
In the video, Fadahunsi is also heard making threats against traditional rulers in Ijeshaland. He warned that "Ijesa Land will not contain" chiefs who support the Accord Party, declaring that "henceforth, it is an eye for an eye or an eye for anything". He also threatened that those found harbouring Accord Party supporters would face death.
The senator's remarks have drawn widespread condemnation, with many calling on security agencies to investigate and prosecute him for incitement to violence and voter suppression. The Imole Campaign Council has called on the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the Department of State Services to order Fadahunsi's arrest and prosecute him in accordance with relevant laws. The council also demanded that security formations pay particular attention to the six local government areas in Ijeshaland to protect the lives of Accord Party members and other law-abiding citizens who will come out to vote.
As of the time of filing this report, Senator Fadahunsi had not publicly withdrawn or clarified his remarks. The Osun State governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, with Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party seeking re-election against the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and other contenders. The election has been marked by rising tensions, with allegations of political violence, police harassment and intimidation of opposition supporters. The video of Senator Fadahunsi's incendiary remarks has heightened fears of electoral violence and underscored the urgent need for security agencies to intervene and ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.
