The family of a businesswoman, Olayinka Oremade, has made a desperate appeal to the Nigeria Police Force and the government to intensify efforts to secure her release after she was abducted alongside one of her staff members in the Alapako/Oyebola area of Ogun State on Friday, August 14, 2026. The abduction occurred when Oremade and her staff were returning from a farm where she had gone to create content for her business. According to her son, Oremade Ilerioluwa, the family's ordeal began when four armed men suddenly appeared in front of their vehicle. As she attempted to reverse and escape, three other kidnappers emerged from behind and shot the rear tyres, immobilising the car in the bush.
The occupants were forced to abandon the vehicle and flee on foot. While two of the staff members managed to escape, Oremade and another employee were captured by the kidnappers. The family was informed of the incident by the workers who escaped, as well as a surveyor who was with them. The following day, the family reported the incident to the police and visited the Ajebo Police Station, which is closest to the scene. However, the police reportedly informed them that officers had searched the area without locating the victims, though the abandoned vehicle was recovered and the two escaped staff members were taken in for questioning.
The suspected kidnappers contacted the family on the night of Saturday, August 15, and initially demanded a ransom of N200 million. After days of negotiation, the gang reduced the demand to N100 million on Wednesday, August 19. In a harrowing development, Oremade's son was able to speak directly with his mother during one of the calls. He said she pleaded with him to seek financial assistance from relatives to facilitate her release. "My family has been going through it for the past five days. Every day we wake up hoping that today she will come back home, but there has been no action from the government," one of her sons said in a statement. The family revealed that local hunters have joined the search for the two abducted women, but their efforts have yet to yield any breakthrough.
The family has stressed that they cannot afford the N100 million ransom. They appealed to the government and security agencies to intensify the search and secure the release of the victims. "We need the help of the Nigerian police to put more hands on this matter and try and rescue them, because we have no way to be able to pay this ransom money," the family said. Efforts to obtain the reaction of the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, were unsuccessful as calls and messages sent to him had not been answered as of the time of filing this report. The abduction of Oremade adds to the growing concerns over the escalating wave of kidnappings in Ogun State, where bandits have increasingly targeted business owners and farmers for ransom. As the family continues to plead for help, the whereabouts of Oremade and her staff member remain unknown, and the anguish of their loved ones deepens with each passing day.
