Enugu NDC Dismisses Ogbonnia Suspension, Says He Remains a Bona Fide Member and Respected Leader

The Enugu State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially dismissed reports regarding the suspension of one of its prominent leaders, Dr. SKC Ogbonnia, describing the claims as baseless and the work of individuals with no constitutional authority.

State Chairman, Dr. Johnpaul Anih, in a statement issued on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, insisted that Dr. Ogbonnia remains a bona fide member and a respected leader of the party. He stressed that Ogbonnia has not been found guilty of any anti-party activity and has not been subjected to any formal disciplinary process.

Anih questioned the authority of those who announced the suspension, demanding to know which provision of the NDC constitution empowered them to take such action. "Where is the resolution of the competent party organ? Where is the disciplinary process? Where is the notice of hearing? Where is the decision of the appropriate authority? There is none," he declared. He described the purported suspension as "political theatre" and accused its promoters of attempting to manufacture authority they do not possess.

This dismissal comes after prior reports indicated that Ogbonnia had been expelled from the party. In early August 2026, the NDC State Executive Committee announced his expulsion, stating he had been under indefinite suspension since May 18, 2026, over allegations of anti-party activities and gross misconduct. The party had also threatened to boycott the Enugu State local government elections over the alleged withholding of its electoral materials by the state electoral commission.

However, Chairman Anih has now firmly rejected these actions, reiterating that the party's legitimate leadership is focused on strengthening its structures and preparing for upcoming elections. He urged party members and the public to disregard the suspension rumours and reaffirmed that Dr. SKC Ogbonnia remains a cherished leader of the NDC in Enugu State.
