Senate President Godswill Akpabio has declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government, led by President Bola Tinubu, has more than enough achievements to present to Nigerians as the party prepares to kick-start its nationwide electioneering for the 2027 general elections. Akpabio made this known on Monday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, while receiving members of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions, TETFund and NELFUND, led by its chairman, Senator Mohammed Dandutse, APC, Katsina South.

The Senate President said President Tinubu inherited an economy in shambles but has since turned things around through innovative thinking and economic reengineering. "The current President has done a lot for Nigerians. He met an economy in shambles. When he came in, 27 states could not pay salaries and pensions but today, the story has changed because of his reengineering and thinking out of the box," Akpabio said. He expressed confidence that Nigerians would re-elect President Tinubu for a second term in 2027, saying the APC would have a strong record to present during the campaigns.

"We will have something to tell Nigerians about the unprecedented achievements of Mr President at the campaign grounds. Someone who is challenging him cannot even tell us what he did when he was governor. I can tell you what I did when I was the governor of my state," Akpabio said. He listed the economy, agriculture, security, education and fiscal policy as areas where the administration had made notable progress. According to him, opposition politicians were aware of the administration's achievements but were unwilling to acknowledge them because of their political interests. "Those in the opposition know too well the achievements of this government in the area of the economy, agriculture, security, education and fiscal policy, but because they are in the opposition, they won't say it," he said.

The Senate President also defended the performance of the 10th Senate, saying the chamber had recorded "giant strides" under his leadership. He pledged continued collaboration between the legislature and the executive to deliver more benefits to Nigerians. Akpabio also cautioned against relying on information circulated on social media, insisting that politicians and Nigerians should focus on verifiable facts and achievements.

He assured senators who would not return to the 11th Senate that their loyalty to the party and President Tinubu would not go unappreciated. The statement by Akpabio comes as the APC prepares for the 2027 elections, with the party having recently unveiled a 223-member Presidential Campaign Council led by former Zamfara State Governor Senator Abdulaziz Yari as Director-General and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as Secretary.
