In a significant blow to the criminal networks terrorising Nigeria's North-West region, troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, operating from the Forward Operating Base in Kaura Namoda, have apprehended two suspected terrorists and recovered a substantial cache of arms, ammunition, and intelligence materials during a targeted night patrol in Zamfara State. The intelligence-led fighting patrol, conducted in the early hours of Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at approximately 1:50 a.m., formed part of the operation's sustained offensive to disrupt criminal activities and restrict the movement of terrorist elements across vulnerable communities in the state.
The troops intercepted and arrested the two suspects, identified as 25-year-old Jabiru Hassan and 23-year-old Umaru Bello, both reportedly residents of Ilela Village in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State. During the operation, the military recovered a significant arsenal, including one AK-47 rifle, two rifle magazines, one locally fabricated Dane gun, 55 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and 18 Dane-gun cartridges. Other items seized include two Baofeng radio sets, one mobile phone, a camouflage vest, two jungle hats, one motorcycle, two MP3 players, one handbag, and N44,500 in cash.
The operation's most critical success, however, may lie in the intelligence gathered. Preliminary exploitation of the mobile phone recovered from one of the suspects has revealed potentially incriminating photographs and video materials considered to be of significant intelligence value. The recovered materials are currently undergoing rigorous verification and forensic analysis to establish the suspects' possible links to wider terrorist networks and criminal activities within Zamfara State. The ongoing investigation is expected to provide critical intelligence on the suspects' movements, associates, and operational networks, further reinforcing Operation FANSAN YAMMA's sustained efforts to dismantle terrorist and criminal elements across its area of responsibility.
