Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, have intercepted and arrested two suspected cattle rustlers at a mining checkpoint along the Tudun Wada–Kiru Road, Rahama Round, in Kiru Local Government Area of Kano State.
The command's Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
According to the statement, the suspects, identified as Jamilu Sa'adu, 45, and Nura Abdullahi, 37, were apprehended in the early hours of Tuesday at about 3:00 a.m. while conveying a suspected rustled cow in a Sharon Galaxy vehicle with registration number JJN 606 AE.
The operatives, while carrying out their statutory duty at the checkpoint, intercepted the vehicle and discovered that the cow had been tied down and concealed in the rear section of the vehicle.
Two other suspected accomplices, believed to be the principal suspects, took to their heels upon sighting the operatives and are currently at large. Efforts are underway to apprehend them.
The arrested suspects and the recovered exhibits, including a cow and two machetes, are currently in custody, while a thorough investigation has commenced to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged cattle rustling and identify the owner of the animal.
The Command assured members of the public that, upon conclusion of the investigation, the suspects would be charged to court and prosecuted accordingly.
"The NSCDC Kano State Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and combating all forms of criminal activities across the state. Members of the public are encouraged to continue to support security agencies with credible and timely information," the statement added.
The successful operation highlights the vigilance of the NSCDC in combating livestock theft, which has become a major concern for farmers and herders in the region. The recovery of the cow and the arrest of the suspects are seen as a significant step toward curbing cattle rustling in Kano State.
