The Niger State Police Command has recorded a significant double victory against criminal elements in the state, arresting a fake doctor who allegedly administered drugs and injections to unsuspecting residents in Kontagora and simultaneously dismantling an armed robbery syndicate that had been terrorising several parts of Minna. The operations, which unfolded between August 11 and August 24, 2026, led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol and ammunition and the arrest of at least six suspects, according to statements by the command's spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun.
The first breakthrough came on Monday, August 24, 2026, at about 4:30 p.m., when police operatives acting on credible intelligence arrested a 35-year-old man, Aminu Yusuf, of Unguwan-Tukura in the Kontagora area of Niger State. Yusuf had been parading himself in the community as a medical doctor despite having no medical background, relevant qualifications or licences to practice. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to administering medications to several persons and placing injections on a lady and other women, charging N30,000 from each of his victims. He told investigators that he engaged in the illegal practice because his community lacked medical personnel to treat residents. The suspect is currently undergoing further investigation and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the inquiry.
In a separate but equally significant operation, the command arrested five suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate allegedly operating across several parts of Minna, recovering a Beretta pistol and two rounds of live ammunition. The breakthrough followed a robbery operation at Sauka-Kahuta in the early hours of August 11, 2026, when armed men allegedly invaded residences and carted away laptops, mobile phones, motorcycles and other valuables. Detectives attached to the Tudun-Wada Division commenced an investigation that led to the arrest of the alleged gang leader, 25-year-old Isiya Auwal of Maitumbi, on August 17, 2026, behind the U.K. Bello Theatre Centre.
Auwal allegedly led detectives to three other suspected members of the syndicate: Muhammad Tanko, 27; Francis Yusuf, aka Sisko, 35; and Amir Musa, 28, who were arrested at Tafa, Dikko Junction, and Keffi in Nasarawa State. The suspects allegedly confessed to robbery operations around the Mandela, Sauka-Kahuta, Barkin-Sale, Farm Centre and Highpoint areas of Minna. During further investigation, the suspects identified 50-year-old Ismaila Abdullahi of Angwan-Roka, Maitumbi, as the custodian of their firearm. Abdullahi was arrested on August 19, 2026, leading to the recovery of a Beretta pistol and two rounds of live ammunition.
Further investigation revealed that the gang sold stolen items to a receiver identified as Ahmed, also known as Genuine, of Maitumbi. The police said the five suspects remain under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the alleged receiver. The successful operations have been hailed as a major victory in the fight against crime in Niger State, demonstrating the command's commitment to intelligence-led policing and community safety. SP Wasiu Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that all suspects would face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations.
