The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 42-year-old man, Marvelous Ozu, in connection with a store break-in and theft along St. Saviour Road, Benin City, recovering stolen property valued at over N5 million, including a 43-inch Hisense LED television, cartons of Chabbot and Valentino brandy, electrical cables, and assorted medicated soaps. The arrest, which occurred on August 22, 2026, followed a swift investigation after a trader reported that unknown persons had broken into his store at No. 65 St. Saviour Road and carted away the items, including a cash sum of N350,000.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, by the command's spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, the complainant, Nwasiwe Felix, reported the incident at the St. Saviour Police Division at about 10:15 a.m. on the day of the break-in. Police detectives immediately visited the scene and commenced an investigation. Dealers in fairly-used items were also alerted, a move that proved crucial in tracking down the suspect.
At about 2:00 p.m. on the same day, police detectives successfully apprehended Ozu on Mission Road, Benin City, while he was attempting to sell some of the stolen items. A subsequent search warrant was executed at his residence on Ogbebor Street, off Upper Sakponba Road, Benin City, where more stolen goods were recovered. The recovered items included a 43-inch Hisense LED television, five bottles of Chabbot brandy, assorted medicated soaps, perfumes, and some bundles of electrical wires and cables, among other items belonging to the complainant.
During interrogation, Ozu reportedly confessed to several other store break-ins and thefts in the Benin City area. The police have not disclosed the total value of the recovered items, but the command described the seizure as worth over N5 million. The suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Patrick Daaor, commended the detectives for their swift response and professionalism. He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the police.
